Only when your consciousness is totally focused on the moment you are in can you receive whatever gift, lesson, or delight that moment has to offer. – Barbara De Angelis

Its been a while since I've been able to find myself able to write anything. A burning question about the way things are right now is why is it that so many people are concerned with What other people see VS how you actually feel?

In today's hyper-connected world, it often feels like we're living our lives on a stage, with an invisible audience constantly watching our every move. Social media platforms have become our virtual theaters, where we perform the roles we believe society expects of us.

With more and more emphasis being placed on social media and the appearances of things, have we become so far removed from really knowing how we actually feel? Be it relationships, food, events etc. We spend so much time getting the perfect picture or rather portraying the perfect picture that we actually have no idea how the experience made us feel.

I've come across so many people giving great reviews to restaurants where the food is horrible but the plating is excellent. People going to functions and spending half the time taking selfies or posing rather than actually interacting with people. People in relationships making sure they are portrayed as the perfect couple, power couple, #couplegoals.

“Success isn’t what others can see, but how you feel. It’s living your truth and doing what makes you truly happy. That’s success.”— Robert Tew

I for one deeply struggle with this. I can't imagine how real life is less important than portrayed life. Because no matter what, the portrayal is always left to interpretation and is most times furthest from reality. I believe that this has added to the disconnect that we so often feel. The turmoil and conflict within ourselves has a direct correlation to this.

"We shouldn't eat to impress others; we should eat to nourish our bodies." — Unknown

"Love should never be a performance; it should be an authentic connection." — Unknown

"Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder; it's in the soul of the person." — Unknown

"Seeking validation from others is like chasing a mirage in the desert; it will never quench your thirst." — Unknown

Conclusion

In our modern society, it's essential to strike a balance between our public persona and our true self. While it's natural to want to present our best selves to the world, we must not lose touch with our inner desires, emotions, and values. Remember that the most fulfilling and authentic life is one where we prioritize how we truly feel over how we appear to others.

Let's strive to break free from the confines of perception and rediscover the beauty of authenticity in our relationships, our relationship with food, and most importantly, our relationship with ourselves. As we do so, we'll find a profound sense of fulfillment and peace that transcends the superficial world of likes and shares.
